#4:  The John Mackey Tip Drill

Argued to be the worst Super Bowl in NFL history because of the incredible number of errors by both teams including a record 11 turnovers, Super Bowl V nonetheless featured one of the most amazing plays ever.  At the start of the game the Baltimore Colts offense was struggling, unable to mount any serious challenges to a tough Dallas Cowboys defense.

Behind 6-0 in the 1st quarter, they caught a big break.  Johnny Unitas, the Colts’ Hall of Fame quarterback, tried to convert a 3rd down by throwing to his receiver Eddie Hinton.  Hampered by Dallas pressure constantly to that point, the pass came out late so it was behind and high.  Hinton tried to make a play but only tipped the ball.  It was almost intercepted by Cowboys corner Mel Renfro but it moved too fast for his hands to grasp it.

Almost by freak chance Colts tight end John Mackey was nearing the end of his pass pattern and watched as the ball landed right in his hands.  Eluding a Dallas defender, he ran 75 yards for the touchdown to tie the game.  The play was enough to keep Baltimore afloat and they eventually outlasted Dallas for their first Super Bowl championship.
