#15: Barry Sanders Carves Up Dallas
The Detroit Lions haven’t had much to celebrate in terms of playoff success in the Super Bowl era, but the one glorious moment they cling to came in 1991. Against a Dallas Cowboys team that would eventually become the dynasty of the 1990s, the Lions took control from the start. By the 4th quarter they held a commanding 31-6 lead. Hopes for a comeback were not going to happen. It was merely a matter of removing any doubts.
That moment came courtesy of Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders. Held to 22 yards rushing the entire game, the Lions nonetheless kept feeding him to run the clock. He did them one better on this play, absolutely crossing up the entire Cowboys defense for a 47-yard touchdown run to cap the win. It was the last Detroit has had since and the high water mark of Sanders’ career.
