#16: The Mario Manningham Catch
No team has given the New England Patriots dynasty more nightmares than the Eli Manning-led New York Giants. Of the six Super Bowls they’ve played in, both their losses came at the hands of the G-men, and often were decided by incredible offense plays late in the game.
The most recent example came in Super Bowl XLVI. Down 17-15 with under four minutes to play, the Giants took over from inside their 10-yard line. Manning knew from past experience the only way to beat the Patriots was by not being afraid to attack them. So on 1st down, he took a huge gamble by firing the ball down the left sideline to receiver Mario Manningham, who appeared double covered.
Somehow Manning threw the pass accurately enough to wear it fit right between the defenders and allowed Manningham to corral it with both of his feet inbounds. The call was upheld following a Patriots challenge. New York continued their drive and scored the go-ahead touchdown with 57 seconds left.
They would hold on to win, claiming their fourth Super Bowl in franchise history.
