One of the teams that suddenly appears crowded at running back is the Cleveland Browns.  They already had two solid options last season in rookies Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West.  Then during the 2015 draft they spent an additional 3rd round pick on Miami standout Duke Johnson.  This has led to speculation that somebody may be out by the end of the preseason.

Recent reports hint that axe may fall on West.

In limited action last year he was pretty effective, posting 673 yards rushing and scoring five touchdowns in 14 games.  The problem is the guy suffers from maturity issues.  He arrived at training camp 13 lbs overweight and isn’t putting in the work coaches are asking for.  This could provide the perfect excuse for the Browns to move him out, and the former 3rd round pick should fetch some interest on the NFL trade market.

The team they must call first?

Houston Texans

Another franchise in the midst of a quarterback competition.  So like Cleveland they had planned to use their ground attack to carry the offense.  That idea took a serious gut punch when Pro Bowl star Arian Foster went down with a bad groin injury during practice.

While word is he can still return by midseason, the fact remains the Texans running game is in a serious dilemma.  Backup Alfred Blue has first opportunity to fill the gap, but he barely averaged 3.1 yards per carry last season and recent addition Chris Polk has talent but is totally unproven.

If Cleveland is truly sold on getting rid of Terrance West, the Texans could really use a back of his talent to throw into that competition.  Much of it will depend on how much is being asked in trade discussions.  Don’t expect them to go beyond a 4th-5th round pick.
