There was no doubt that Houston Texans running back Alfred Blue was going to see plenty of action in 2015, making him a solid depth consideration for NFL fantasy football owners. After all, he did post 82.10 points as a rookie with 528 yards rushing and three touchdowns. However, recent developments have put the second-year man squarely in the crosshairs of bargain hunters looking for hidden gems.
Arian Foster is one of the best running backs in football and was a top fantasy producer at the position last season. Losing him is a major blow to the Texans offense as they try to figure out whether they have something at quarterback with Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer.
"“Foster finished Monday’s session on the sideline after he pulled up with a limp during a pass play. After practice, Texans coach Bill O’Brien spoke about why his running back exited practice prematurely.“We’ve got to monitor Arian,” said O’Brien, “like I told you guys that in the offseason and I think that’s what that’s all about today.”"
This puts Blue squarely on the spot. The former 6th round pick averaged 3.1 yards per carry last season and was mostly ineffective any time he received starter carries when Foster was nicked up. He has the talent to success. That is no in question. It’s whether he can mature as a patient runner and whether his body can hold up to that type of pound.
The Texans hope so because it’s could be critical to their entire season. Otherwise they may have to resort to Eagles castoff Chris Polk. Fantasy owners hope so because he could be one of the steals of the year.
