#2: Calvin Johnson: “Megatron“
Yes, the nickname came around during the height of the “Transformers” movie craze but there are still so many layers to this nickname. First, it implies that Calvin Johnson is equivalent to a giant robot organism capable of such incredible feats in combat as to make puny humans look insignificant.
Then there is the name itself. Series fans know that Megatron is the great villain and leader of the Decepticons. So Johnson did not view himself as a hero, but the on everybody else should fear, and he’s played that way since he put on a Detroit Lions uniform. His ridiculous feats of power, speed and vision can be those of a mortal man.
With 10,405 yards and 74 touchdowns in his career already, the NFL world is not safe from his wrath anytime soon.
