UPDATE: Umenyiora will officially retire as a Giant on Wednesday in a press conference.

After spending 12 seasons in the trenches of the NFL, former Giants Pro Bowler Osi Umenyiora is looking to step away from the game. The former New York Giants defensive end is reportedly in talks with the team to sign a one day contract, allowing him to finish his career where he began back in 2003.

Originally drafted with the Giants second round pick in the 2003 NFL draft, Umenyiora made a name for him self as a guy quarterbacks and offensive lineman always had their eyes on. He finishes his 12-year career with 85 sacks,  75 of those in Giants blue. Umenyiora sits at number four on the New York Giants all-time sack list, just four and a half behind third place holder Leonard Marshall.

Just five months ago, Umenyiora’s two year, $8.5 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons expired, making him a free agent. In limited playing time in Atlanta, Umenyiora completed ten sacks and 59 tackles. The two-time Pro Bowler announced his plans to continue his career, but a lack of interest has led to his reported decision. Despite the recent injury to Jason Pierre-Paul, the Giants had no interest in inviting Umenyiora to training camp to compete next week.

Umenyiora won two Super Bowls while with the Giants, producing 5.5 sacks during four playoff appearances with the team. He also earned First-Team All-Pro honors in 2005 when he raked in a career high 14.5 sacks.
