Russell Wilson, Even Minus Contract, Still On Pace for Another Super Bowl
By Joe Wedra
Last year’s attempt at a Super Bowl run was foiled in rather unpleasant fashion for Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. Now, getting back to SB 50 is the top priority over in Seattle — even without a large contract extension for the team’s starting QB.
First, it’s a “must” to ignore the offseason headline-grabbing articles that already have “Wilson leaving Seattle in 2016?” rumors floating. Seattle knows what they have in Wilson, and undoubtedly realize how thin the quarterback market is overall — arguably the worst we’ve ever seen it.
Barring a massively debatable decision by the Seattle brass, 2015 won’t be Wilson’s last year on the west coast.

In the article above, penned by NBC’s Mike Florio, Joe Flacco is mentioned as a situation rather akin to this one. And truly, it’s not a poor comparison if you break it down. Baltimore knew they were keeping Flacco, but in his “contract year”, the quarterback lead a record-setting playoff performance and earned a ring to prove he earned elite money. If things continue on the same track for Wilson and the Seahawks, a similar situation could arise.
After all, an appearance in Super Bowl 50 shouldn’t be out of the question.
Aside from a shaky situation at the center spot that should be ironed out before week one, what did Seattle lose? The receiving corps has all the potential in the world, we don’t have to address the rushing attack — and oh yeah, that Jimmy Graham guy is pretty decent, too.
Oddly enough, the biggest questions will lie within the Seattle defense with Kris Richard’s unit.
How will Cary Williams fare across from Richard Sherman as a part of the Legion of Boom?
Is the defensive tackle position bolstered enough to thrive late in the season?
Flaws could appear — it’ll be compelling to watch Richard navigate through potential early roadblocks and lead his side of the ball to typical Seattle success.
ESPN ranks them #1 overall in the pre-season power rankings. Wilson seems to be glowing with confidence, not worried one bit about the lingering contract issue.
At this point, the talks are a mere storyline to follow up on at a later date.
For now, watch Wilson and Co. lead yet another deep run.
