College Football Notebook: Wide Receiver

As part of our growing college football coverage, I will be sharing some of my personal scouting notes on some of the 2016 wide receiver prospects throughout the football offseason. I hope this gives fans a chance to see what we see when we’re scouting players, and gives you an opportunity to join in.

Today I will be sharing my notes on three of the up and coming wide receiver across college football: Mike Williams, D’haquille Williams, and De’Runnya Wilson. These are the exact words out of my personal scouting notebook I take when I watch tape on each of these players. Hope you enjoy!

Mike Williams – Clemson, Junior

  • 6’4, 210 lbs
  • Born in South Carolina
  • 2014 Stats – 57 rec, 1030 yards, six touchdowns
  • Missed game vs Georgia Tech, 2014
  • Second Team All-ACC  by media
  • GAME WATCHED – BOSTON COLLEGE, 2014
  • Lines up on the outside
  • Good route running
  • Excellent blocker
  • Attacks the ball every time
  • Used mainly on vertical routes
  • Run after the catch questionable

D’haquille Williams – Auburn, Senior

  • 6’2, 224lbs
  • From Louisiana
  • Played Junior College at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College
  • Missed back to back games in 2014
  • Suspended for the 2014 Outback Bowl for several missed practices
  • Social Media Issues
  • GAME WATCHED – ARKANSAS, 2014
  • Mainly plays in the slot
  • Good speed
  • Nice breakaway ability
  • Good catch and run
  • Effective blocker
  • Fights for yards
  • Hard to bring down
  • Ball security issues
  • Tries to do too much

De’Runnya Wilson – Mississippi St, Junior

  • Arrested on second degree marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges
  • 6’5, 225 lbs
  • Missed two games, no reception in a third game
  • 2014 STATS – 47 rec, 680 yards, nine touchdowns
  • Expected to be teams best wide receiver in 2015
  • Plays multiple spots
  • Good vertical speed
  • Didn’t try to breakup a potential interception
  • Very effective blocker
  • Vertical receiver
  • Ball control is excellent
  • Turns head on deep touchdowns
  • Fights for yards
  • Doesn’t get open in the redzone
