Tyler Boyd, Josh Doctson Are Star NFL Draft Prospects, But Who Else?

We might be just days removed from the NFL Draft, but it’s never too early to look ahead to next year’s 2016 NFL Draft and spotlight on a few wide receivers who could be thrusted into major impact roles in the near future. Headliners like Tyler Boyd and Josh Doctson are the well-known players, but who else? Here’s a quick look at a few of the top prospects.

Tyler Boyd, Pitt

Make no mistakes about it: Boyd is going to be your headliner if he declares. There’s little that this kid can’t do, even in a Pitt offense that isn’t quite known for firepower.

Boyd’s speed is unquestioned and his athleticism is insanely insane (that’s a thing, right?).

More from NFL Draft

He’s a bit of a string bean, but his combination of route-running skills and catch radius should trump any negative that NFL teams have. Surely at/near the top of lists now — a good 2015 will establish a very early grade.

Josh Doctson, TCU

The guy on many radars as the top WR prospect potentially emerging from 2015. Docston isn’t a game-breaker, but he does a whole lot of things right. His traits are undeniable.

When you turn on the tape, it’s easy to see how much focus and body control the kid has.

He’s a tough player who will bring good hands to the table. A true reliable target. He needs some fine-tuning in the blocking game, but there’s no reason to believe scouts won’t be flocking to Fort Worth in the next few months to watch Doctson.

The Best of the Rest

It’s way too early to solidify any lists, but here are a few notes of other prospects off of 2014 film:

  • Rutgers WR Leonte Carroo is a stud. He doesn’t have the size that others do in this class, but that’s no knock. He’s a speedy deep threat who brings a very active presence to the field.
  • Watch Clemson’s WR Mike Williams. This guy has incredible size and knows how to use it. No crazy speed here, but a very reliable target who has good hands and a strong-bodied game.
  • A small-school prospect to watch: WR Alonzo Russell from Toledo. He was a game-tape star in 2014, flashing a massive, commanding size with great skills. He’s a little stiff, but his blocking and giant catch radius will turn some heads.
