It’s not hard to understand why the Seattle Seahawks are reluctant to entertain any idea of trading defensive end Michael Bennett.  Just turn on the tape of Super Bowl XLIX and watch him terrorize Tom Brady for long stretches during that game.  It may not show in stats, but Bennett is one of the best pass rushers in football, particularly in big games.

The problem is, at least for them, he knows it.  That’s why he wants more money.

For all the success they’ve had the past couple seasons, Seattle had to know this was coming.  Winning brings glory, sure, but it also brings money.  Lots of money and any player with common sense would want a piece of that pie while it’s still hot.  Marshawn Lynch took advantage.  Bennett seems to be doing the same.

Here’s the thing.  The Seahawks only have so much money to throw around.  After scooping up Jimmy Graham in a trade with New Orleans, staring down a monster deal with quarterback Russell Wilson, and needing to set money aside for key free agents in 2016 there may not be enough left in the coffers to handle the demands of their disgruntled defensive end.

It isn’t a lost cause yet, but the idea of trading Michael Bennett while his value is high will start to appear to the Seattle Seahawks the longer the two sides bicker over a new deal.  John Schneider doesn’t fear big moves and this is one he must consider very carefully.
