NFL Free Agency: OT Jermey Parnell Headed to Jaguars

According to Ian Rapport of the NFL Network, the Jacksonville Jaguars are adding former Dallas Cowboys right tackle Jermey Parnell to their offensive line. Parnell has been a spot starter for the Cowboys and is an intriguing young player with some upside.

Rapoport has the official news:

Parnell was considered by some to be a top 50 free agent this offseason, or at least close to it. He hasn’t played a ton as a full time starter, but has played in all 16 games each of the last four seasons.

The Jaguars are banking on upside here, or at least the thought that the 28-year old Parnell can develop into a good bookend starter along with Luke Joeckel. The offensive line in Jacksonville has needed a major makeover, and hopefully for them, Parnell can be a key piece moving forward.

The fit here is obvious, if not more of a need. Parnell will be penciled in as the starting right tackle, and because the Jaguars have so much money, they were able to throw whatever was needed at Parnell and get him in the fold.

GRADE: C

This isn’t a blockbuster signing, nor is it really a value signing. The Jaguars are getting Parnell, a guy who has started seven games since 2009, to try and come in and be their full time starting right tackle. Depending on what they paid and what kind of production they get, this could be a huge bust of a signing or just a solid one.
