Wondering where he’ll land, we take a look at the two hot teams that could be in the running. First, here’s what Marshall’s cap scenario would be, courtesy of the great @ShaneNFL (on Twitter):
Cleveland Browns
With very little dead money, Cleveland has options upon options with their current projected cap space. Marshall’s hit wouldn’t be too much to handle, which makes this scenario slightly more feasible.
Weapons are on the depth chart, but a true number one is needed to solidify this always shaky receiving corps. While the quarterback spot is a bit up in the air, the front office has to mix up those on the outskirts.
Oakland Raiders
It’s safe to say cap room isn’t much of an issue here. Oakland is projected to lead the league in space this offseason, essentially sticking them on the “teams to watch list” with every major player on the market.
With Marshall, it’s hard to deny the natural fit.
Not only does the money aspect make sense here, the “veteran presence” feel seems like it could work out well. With youngsters in Derek Carr and throughout the receiving corps, Marshall’s emergence into an offense under construction could provide some help for the future, even when the (potential) former Chicago Bear departs.
Other AFC Fits
The Colts have been rumored to be interested in veteran receivers, immediately putting Indy into play here. The Ravens seem to make the most sense, but their cap situation has to drastically change. What about the Jets? There have been significant rumors about NYJ bringing in the well-traveled veteran.
Don’t sleep on the Chargers. This move was reported by a fake Ian Rapoport Twitter account yesterday, but there’s a legitimate chance that this materializes as we move forward.
