Brett Hundley, Cardinals an NFL Draft Match Made in Heaven?
By Joe Wedra
Maybe we can’t read into Brett Hundley’s comments on the Rich Eisen Show too much, but his take on the Arizona Cardinals potentially taking him in the 2015 NFL Draft were interesting, if nothing else.
Interviewed by Rick Neuheisel on Friday, Hundley was asked his thoughts on potentially heading back home out to Arizona to eventually play under center for the Cardinals. Here were his comments, c/o NFL.com:
"“That would be awesome. That would be amazing,” Hundley told “The Rich Eisen Show.” “To go home and play for your hometown team when you grew up not too far away, that would be a dream come true.”"
A dream come true?
Now, that’s something we’re going to have to explore just a bit more.
Obviously, quarterback isn’t exactly priority number one for the Cardinals in the first round of this Draft. With Carson Palmer coming back in 2015 healthy after an injury, Arizona seems to be set on their near future. However, could they look at the former UCLA standout as the guy to groom for the next few years?
Last season, the team went with Logan Thomas a bit earlier than many expected. Hope may still be holding on there, but Arizona can’t be sure enough to put all of their chips in that basket for the next few seasons.

If the opportunity is there in the second round, would the team take a shot?
It’s unlikely that a move of this caliber would be made in Round One; then again, we’ve seen crazier things. Opportunity — and pressure — may be knocking at Arizona’s door once the Draft rolls around. Knowing Hundley would buy in and be happy in his home state, the Cardinals may cave to the pressure and send the quarterback’s name in.
Palmer is locked in for a few more years if he wants to be, almost making this possibility even more attractive. Hundley is better than most prospects labeled “developmental”, but he’s still just that. Having a year or two of time to absorb the playbook and NFL wouldn’t hurt one bit.
There have been things just a bit wilder happen in previous years. Why couldn’t we see Arizona make the move of the year with one of their first two selections?
