Often a key to winning every seasons depends on getting bigger contributions from unexpected players. Who are some NFL breakout names fans can expect to see in 2015?
C.J. Anderson (RB, Denver Broncos)
One of the more suprising revelations of the 2014 seasons was undrafted running back C.J. Anderson, who emerged as the best back the Denver Broncos had. Expect him to not only match what he did last season, but surpass it thanks to the presence of new head coach Gary Kubiak, an apostle of Mike Shanahan who thrives on building strong ground attacks. If Anderson gets the starting nod, expect him to crack 1,000 yards.
Donte Moncrief (WR, Indianapolis Colts)
Hakeem Nicks and Reggie Wayne are both free agents, which could mean the receiving corps for the Indianapolis Colts is going through some changes. One name to watch is Donte Moncrief. The rookie 3rd round pick flashed constantly for them all season, finishing with 444 yards and three touchdowns in reserve action. Given more action, he has the big body and deceptive speed that can really take off if nurtured properly.
Richard Rodgers (TE, Green Bay Packers)
Statistically speaking, the rookie year for Richard Rodgers was pedestrian. He was never the focal point of the Green Bay Packers offense, but that doesn’t mean the 6’4” tight end can’t make plays. He’s a great athlete for his size and showed down the stretch of last season he can be a factor down the middle. Look for Green Bay to get him more involved.
Khalil Mack (OLB, Oakland Raiders)
Things can’t be looking much better for Khalil Mack. He now has a veteran head coach with a defensive background and a defensive coordinator who specializes in linebackers. Though he only had four sacks in 2014, Mack was disruptive often. With the wealth of experience coming in, he should improve significantly in all phases of his game. A dangerous thought.
Kyle Fuller (CB, Chicago Bears)
Nobody expected him to become a starter as a rookie. At least that wasn’t the plan for the Chicago Bears, but Kyle Fuller was pressed into service. While his team limped to a 5-11 finish, he quietly posted 64 tackles, three forced fumbles and four interceptions. He is still not yet 23-years old and is now under the watch of John Fox and Vic Fangio, two of the best defensive minds in the NFL.
