Miami WR Phillip Dorsett Rising Quickly Up Draft Boards

You can’t coach speed, we’ve all been told. Miami wide receiver and return specialist Phillip Dorsett is a guy who has proven to everyone that he can absolutely fly, and he’s currently flying up draft boards.

Mostly regarded as a 2nd-3rd round pick, Dorsett recently climbed to the top five of Mel Kiper’s positional rankings, and will head into the Scouting Combine in February as one of the most anticipated workouts in the entire crop of players. Everyone wants to see Chris Johnson’s 4.24 second 40-yard dash time beaten by someone, and Dorsett has reportedly clocked a 4.21.

He’s an absolute blur.

When you watch him play at Miami, Dorsett is not just a gimmick player with a ton of speed — he’s got plenty of game. Our own Tyler Morales recently took a look at Dorsett in-depth and gave us a scouting report and what to expect from him at the next level.

This is a guy who will make some easy plays look hard, and he might even play out of control at times, but the kind of speed he possesses is something that NFL teams value very highly and if you get this guy in the open field — watch out.

In just two plays of the video against Arkansas State, you can see exactly what kind of prospect Dorsett is. On the first play, he makes a bad play on special teams that could have easily resulted in a turnover because of a bad decision and being too aggressive. On the next play in the game footage, Dorsett runs a little wheel route and just absolutely obliterates the defensive back down the field.

It’s a pretty sight to see, but you have to know that you get the good with the bad in this smallish package though Dorsett’s game really speaks for itself.
