It’s a question that arose at the most unusual time right before a big playoff game. Would the Denver Broncos get rid of John Fox if he failed to win the divisional round matchup with the Indianapolis Colts?
A better question is why would a guy who has won four-straight division titles be on the hot seat? It isn’t poor coaching or a class with the front office. In this case, the reality is that Fox may just be too old for the direction this franchise is getting ready to go.
Fox exits paves way to keep Adam Gase in house
The entire thought process behind removing Fox is centered around Peyton Manning. The all-time, future Hall of Fame quarterback finally seems to look mortal after a lackluster showing against Indy. His arm isn’t what it used to be and his masterful command of the huddle and preparation just isn’t enough. He could very well be out, in which case the Broncos would want somebody to lead the franchise into the future.
The problem is that option, offensive coordinator Adam Gase is being hotly pursued by several NFL teams for their head coaching positions.
So, by following the logic, Denver removing Fox from the picture would open up the opportunity for them to keep Gase away from vultures by promoting him to head coach.
It makes perfect sense. They keep a guy they’ve groomed the past few years who is young and filled with fresh ideas for the future and able to develop their next young quarterback.
Fair or not, it’s a business decision with a lot of logic behind it for the Denver Broncos.
