NFL Trade Machine: Market Growing For Robert Griffin III
By Erik Lambert
It’s still not clear what the situation really is for the Washington Redskins at quarterback. Colt McCoy is hurt and Jay Gruden doesn’t seem to favor Kirk Cousins but it’s hard to ignore the disconnect that has appeared with Robert Griffin III since the NFL season began. Inevitably this has led to swirling rumors that the team is planning a move of some kind, most likely to trade their former 1st round pick.
The previous few weeks there was a general feeling that there would be a market of some kind for the 25-year old, but it would be limited due to his poor play and injury problems. That, however may have changed following a huge Saturday night victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
It wasn’t a gangbusters type of affair, but there was definitely a different sense about RGIII in the game. He was calm, more decisive with his throws and demostrated excellent touch on his passes, especially down the field as he connected with DeSean Jackson twice for over 50 yards. The offense was in rhythm most of the night and execute well against a team that had everything to play for.
It showed signs of the quarterback who won Rookie of the Year in 2012 and the player a lot of team might see as a viable option for their team if they get the right system in place for him. That’s great news for the Washington Redskins if they are indeed seeking a trade at the end of the year.
