Miami Dolphins Can’t Bank On Getting Jim Harbaugh

Things don’t always have an emphatic ending to them, something that can be described as the surefire point of no return. However, when it does happen, it’s clear as day. For the Miami Dolphins, the end of their head coach Joe Philbin became unquestionable after seeing the final seconds tick away in a 41-13 drubbing at the hands of the New England Patriots. It marked the final nail in the coffin for what many believed was a sinking ship.

Philbin was reportedly growing unpopular with his players, as emphasized by the vision of defensive lineman Jared Odrick screaming at him on the sideline. Whatever the primary reasons are, Philbin no longer has control of the locker room and that is going to inevitably result in his release.

The only question after that is whom the Miami Dolphins brass get to replace him. There is always the promotion from within, but every sign over the past week has indicated the team is gearing up for a run at San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. He too appears on his way out, ironically due to many of the same reasons. His abrasive style has worn out the players and management, but it doesn’t erase the success he had there the previous three years.

However, Miami must be careful. They can’t become consumed with the idea it’s Harbaugh or nothing. All indications are that the head coach is a heavy favorite to land in Oakland because of the proximity and their young quarterback Derek Carr. The Dolphins can’t afford to be caught without their guy, if indeed the rumors are true.

Not with this roster and that quarterback at such a critical juncture.
