Fans would much rather have John Idzik get the boot but Rex Ryan isn’t going to survive this disappointing year for the New York Jets. He had a great run but couldn’t overcome his quarterback problems. The team needs a new voice.
Next Man Up?
So much of how this plays out depends on Geno Smith. If the organization is going to run with him, they have to build the coaching staff accordingly with sharp offensive minds who are good with quarterbacks. Pep Hamilton in Indianapolis and Adam Gase in Denver come to mind.
Miami Dolphins
Current HC: Joe Philbin
Everything hinges on the playoffs. If the Miami Dolphins make it then Joe Philbin will have saved his job. Otherwise his growing inability to keep his players under control is going to prove too much for Dolphins brass to ignore. They can’t afford to have the players tune out when the team is so close to contention.
Next Man Up?
Rumors are the Dolphins are also players in the Harbaugh sweepstakes but their chances aren’t nearly as good. If Philbin is out, expect them to seek somebody who can continue the development of Ryan Tannehill such as Darrell Bevell out of Seattle among others.
