NFL Takeaways: Joe Philbin Losing Grip On Miami Dolphins
By Erik Lambert
It was always hinted at that maybe the job of head coach Joe Philbin wasn’t the most secure in the world. Two seasons of missing the playoffs can do that. However, with the team fully in the hunt for January many felt that perhaps the heat on him has cooled somewhat. Apparently those assumptions were premature.
After another frustrating loss to the Baltimore Ravens in which the Dolphins let the game get away from them, just how little control Philbin has of his troops appeared when defensive end Jared Odrick was spotted screaming at the head coach on the sideline. According to those who watched he appeared to be mouthing the words, “Every week.”
Players yelling at coaches isn’t anything new in the NFL, but it’s about context and there have been rumors for weeks that the Miami Dolphins players, specifically the defense were growing tired of the play calling and style Philbin was commanding.
One thing is for sure. The next three games will not only decide the fate of the Dolphins in the playoff picture but most likely will impact the final results on Joe Philbin as a head coach.
