NFL Mocks Roundtable: Mark Sanchez to the Redskins?
By Joe Wedra
The NFL rumors are piling up at this time of the year, particularly with the teams mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. One hot name has been Mark Sanchez, who will be a free agent at the end of the 2014 season.
Our staff at NFLMocks wanted to weigh in on this discussion, setting up a “Where will Sanchez be in 2015?” discussion.
Here’s what the guys had to say …
Erik: It’s clear now that Mark Sanchez is at his best when he has an offensive head coach in charge. Don’t be surprised if the Titans, Cardinals, Redskins or even the Bears make a run at him in free agency. A lot will depend on what happens this next off-season though.
Sayre: I say Sanchez is either still with the Eagles as a backup or perhaps competing for a starting job with the St. Louis Rams, a team that might need a stop gap QB who can win games.
Mickey: Mark Sanchez will be back in Philadelphia next year. They do not view him as the long term answer at quarterback though he may view himself as the answer. He will most likely get a chance to compete with Nick Foles for the starting job in training camp. The Eagles will probably give Sanchez a short term contract that is of moderate value that is heavily laden with incentives.
There’s definitely a discuassion for many of these teams, particularly the Washington Redskins – something Erik brought up. I’d be interested to see what would happen if the team decides to go out onto the free agent market to explore options. It’s become clear that the players on the current depth chart are extremely far away from being the solution.
Robert Griffin III’s likely departure from the starting role will shake up some things. Don’t be surprised if a coaching change affects the final decision, as Justin Higdon of Draft Browns also noted:
Hidgon also mentioned the Rams as a potential landing spot.
You could go anywhere with this topic, but Washington seems to be the current hot discussion point.
