Should the San Diego Chargers be Worried about NFL Playoffs?
By Joe Wedra
The race for the NFL Playoffs is as good as it can get right now, likely to the dismay of Mike McCoy and the San Diego Chargers. In the thick of the AFC Wild Card race, they’re poised to make a playoff run. However, if just a few things go wrong, the season could end in a few short weeks.
Here are the three reasons to be concerned with the Chargers as they move forward.
Where’s the pass rush?
With the dynamic passers San Diego will be facing in their upcoming schedule, a lack of pass rush is the worst possible recipe for success.

Still Curtain
John Pagano’s defense has just 18 sacks on the year, an underwhelming number to say the least. The elite weapons just aren’t in the front-seven this season. Somebody will have to step up and find a way to break through to end the season.
Rushing consistency
A fresh Ryan Matthews is going to help this team tremendously, but can we trust the offense as a whole to put together a dynamic rushing game?
Phillip Rivers needs balance to be an above-average quarterback. When not paired with a solid rushing attack, the veteran quarterback can stumble. Matthews has to be his best, but the offensive line has to be better. If the Chargers can’t find a way to put everything together in the ground game, the end of 2014 can be put into desperation mode very quickly.
Offensive line struggles (to say the least…)
No, things aren’t good up front – something fans are beginning to get a bit fed up with. Guys like Chad Rinehart and Johnnie Troutman haven’t produced in any fashion this year; and while this unit is a makeshift bunch, something has to improve.
It’s no secret that this team can’t convert third-downs via the ground game.
If it weren’t for the a few dynamic playmakers on this offense, the Chargers offense would be looking at the bottom of the league rankings due to the play of the guys up front. It’ll be tough to win many games in the trenches moving forward.
