Could Brian Hoyer be with Houston Texans in 2015?

The NFL rumors are in full effect as we enter the final stretch of the 2014 year, and nobody has been more talked about than Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer. The veteran journeyman might be looking for decent money this offseason. Could the Houston Texans be willing to throw out a nice chunk of change for a nice mix-up at the quarterback spot?

A lot of factors come into play when looking at the potential “Hoyer to Houston” move.

The first thing we know is pretty simple: the guys on the depth chart aren’t going to get the Texans in the playoffs in 2015. It appears they were high on Tom Savage in the pre-draft process, but there’s no reason to believe he’s a guy that you can rely on as a starter.

As for Ryan Fitzpatrick and Ryan Mallett, what have they shown – even when healthy – that has earned them a starting job?

The Browns might be willing to accept Hoyer for a long-term deal, but do they put the immediate future of their team in the hands of a guy that hasn’t exactly shined this year? He can win, but it’s hard to imagine the Browns brass is going to welcome Hoyer with open arms to lead them to a potential Super Bowl run. However, if he does manage to lead them to a playoff appearance, things could change in a big way.

With just a 55-percent completion percentage and a recent three-INT game, fans in Cleveland aren’t exactly overflowing with confidence.

It’s hard to ignore the Johnny Manziel factor in this whole situation – as much as we might like to. Cleveland spent a first-round pick on Manziel for a reason. He won’t be sitting on the bench forever, despite the fact that head coach Mike Pettine wants everyone to think that way. The former Texas A&M Aggie is going to get his shot … it’s hard to believe it’s not with Cleveland in 2015.

Houston needs help – nobody is going to deny it.

Hoyer has proven he can win, although at times unconventionally. If a spark is what they are looking for, Houston fans might just get it in the offseason with a new QB.

It’s safe to say the final few weeks of Brian Hoyer’s season are going to totally change the 2015 outlook.
