Zach Mettenberger: How Titans QB can Beat the Ravens

It’s hard to argue that Zach Mettenberger and the Tennessee Titans are an exciting team to watch on Sundays. With the rest of the NFL full of storylines, the Titans have few eye-popping stars and plays to keep track of, making it tough for outsiders to buy into anything the team is doing.

Mettenberger has shown flashes of dominance this year alongside his struggles, something that leads us to believe he may be ready to take it to the Baltimore Ravens this week.

Here’s what need to happen for Mettenberger to hide his “rookie” label and prove that he can compete in this league with a big win over Baltimore.

A balanced attack

The Titans have proven this year that running the ball has been a bit of a struggle. Nobody is really emerging in the running game (however, Bishop Sankey looks good for the future), leaving Tennessee 20th in the league with just about 101 yards rushing per game.

For Mettenberger to succeed on Sunday, the Titans will have to find a way to run the ball against a very stout Ravens run defense that is led by rookie C.J Mosley. The O-line must find ways to seal the edge and get their backs to the edge.

Taking shots

The Ravens have had dismal secondary play this season. This game might be a perfect time for Mettenberger to gain some confidence by launching a few downfield and seeing what happens. The big-play threats are there at receiver – at 2-6, why not work in the long-ball?

Early and often

Establishing the passing game early against the Ravens will be critical. Baltimore is a team – while streaky – that can get out to huge leads when their offense is hot. Mettenberger must get in a rhthym early and hit his go-to guys.

Tight end Delanie Walker is one to watch as is Dexter McCluster out of the backfield.
