For over a decade there was no serious NFL challenger to the throne the New England Patriots have held in the AFC East. Not anymore. Even as the traditional powerhouse flexes its regular season muscles by hammering the Broncos in Foxborough 43-21, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick must not let the euphoria dampen their senses to one very important fact. The Miami Dolphins are right behind them.
Ryan Tannehill and Dolphins defense lead crushing of Chargers
Does anyone even remember that Miami actually beat the Patriots earlier in the year 33-20? Of course not. Why would they? It was probably a fluke. Nothing more. That is until fans got a front row seat for what happened this past Sunday. Led by Ryan Tannehill, who had three touchdowns and no turnovers, and a suffocating defense the Dolphins absolutely pummeled the San Diego Chargers into submission down in South Beach 37-0. It marks the first time ever that quarterback Philip Rivers has been shut out in a game. He was drafted in 2004 and has reached five Pro Bowls.
It’s a testament to how hot the Dolphins are. Everything is clicking. Offense. Defense. Even special teams. They have a great mix of young and veteran talent and it’s all starting to mesh at the right time.
As the NFL will see it, the New England Patriots reign supreme. Still, they will be making a huge mistake if they discount what the Dolphins are becoming.
