It’s easy to understand the Dallas Cowboys and their sense of urgency coming off a loss. Still, they need to keep their heads on the big picture. Tony Romo remains by far the best quarterback they have on the roster and he has fractures in his back. Yes, it’s true that they aren’t as serious as it may sound but the fact is the 34-year old may be one good hit away from being done for the season.
To review, Romo entered the 2014 season coming off back surgery. Granted, his current injury isn’t in the same area but the message is clear. He takes a lot of hits and his back seems to take a good portion of the punishment. Besides that, the Cowboys need to remember they are 6-2. They are tied for first place in the NFC East and for the first time in a long while have a well-rounded team with a running game and a decent defense. In terms of capability, they are one of a number of teams that can survive a small stretch without their starting quarterback.
So why are they even considering starting Tony Romo? Love him or hate him, he is the key to their success down the stretch and they have to make sure he’s completely healthy, even if that means sacrificing a game to do it. It’s not easy, but that is the responsible and right thing for the Dallas Cowboys. DeMarco Murray and Brandon Weeden will have to suffice.
