The past few seasons, there has been no more reliable corner for the Washington Redskins than DeAngelo Hall. Sadly his time may be ending. The 30-year old has watched the team for weeks from the sidelines. Like any veteran player, his plan was simple. Help his team through leadership as best he could and heal up for next season. Unfortunately things took a serious step back when Hall re-aggravated his injury.
Despite the sour humor, the tearing of his Achilles for the second time is a difficult setback for Hall and not just because it lengthens the amount of rehab he will have to do following another surgery, but also will have unforseen consequences towards his future with the Washington Redskins.
David Amerson and Bashaud Breeland emerging as stout pairing
The reason? It would seem the team is beginning to adjust to life without him. In their recent victory over the Dallas Cowboy, no two defenders drew more praise and credit for the upset than young cornerbacks David Amerson and Bashaud Breeland. Collectively they posted 10 tackles, four pass deflections and a forced fumble on the evening. Their coverage was a huge catalyst towards shutting the potent Cowboys offense down. If they continue to grow together at the rate they have over the past few weeks, it could set the Redskins up for years to come. Where would that then leave Hall?
He turns 31 next year and will carry a salary cap hit of $4.8 million. Washington could very well decide that isn’t worth keeping around, what with him also having to come back from two Achilles tears within a span of months. It sounds unfair, and maybe it is, but that is the reality of the NFL.
