With the New York Jets trading for wide receiver Percy Harvin comes the greed of NFL fans like me who say, “Why not more?”
There aren’t many mid-season trades in the NFL so when we see a huge name like Percy Harvin get moved, it definitely gets the trade juices flowing. One player in particular that I could see as a big name getting moved is Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller, who has been getting inconsistent work with the offense and surrendering touches left and right to Fred Jackson.
There’s no doubt Spiller has talent, so why can’t he find consistency in the Bills’ offense? I think the answer lies in the fact that the Bills have two lead backs, and they are trying to force these guys into being a two-headed monster.
Spiller is a home run hitter, and he’s certainly not averse to being traded by the Bills, though he is saying all the right things.
“This organization is going to do what’s best for the organization to be in position to win ball games and win championships,”Spiller told The Buffalo News. “I want to be involved in that, be a part of that here at Buffalo, but if this organization decides to go in a different direction, I won’t have any bad feelings at all. That’s part of the business. I want to be a Bill.”
Sure, you want to be a Bill, but you aren’t going to complain if they trade you either. I saw what you did there, C.J.
There are a variety of teams who could have interest in Spiller, specifically teams in the AFC who have a need at the running back position. Perhaps the most interesting possible landing spot would be the Denver Broncos, who certainly aren’t trying to build up a collection of draft picks and have a potential need at the running back spot.
There are plenty of places where Spiller could fit in if he’s traded, and the way he’s getting under-utilized it wouldn’t surprise me to see him as the next big chip moved.
