BREAKING: Ray Rice’s Contract Terminated by Ravens
By Joe Wedra
News has just broke that the Baltimore Ravens have terminated the contract of running back Ray Rice, after a TMZ Sports video revealed the “inside the elevator” video earlier this morning. The team made an official statement, saying Rice’s contract has been terminated, officially cutting all ties with the back.
This news doesn’t come as a surprise, as many speculated the team would have to make a move after the TMZ report. Speculation will be running wild for a few days, but we now know one thing – Ray Rice is no longer a Baltimore Raven.
Rice was suspended for the first two games of the season by the NFL after the incident with his wife Janay in the spring. In a casino, Rice apparently punched his then-fiance after an altercation in the lobby and elevator.
Here’s the official statement from the team, via Twitter:
Now, the Ravens will have to turn to Justin Forsett, Lorenzo Taliaferro, and Bernard Pierce to carry the load in the backfield for the 2014 season. Pierce was benched yesterday after a fumble, leaving Forsett to take the bulk of the carries for the rest of the 23-16 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Terrell Suggs tweeted just after the news broke, and while he used multiple expletives, we’ll sum it up like this: “it’s been a bad day”.
