NFL Trade Rumors: Why Eagles Won’t Trade Mark Sanchez
By Joe Wedra
In the latest buzz around NFL Trade Rumors, it appears QB Mark Sanchez leaving the Philadelphia Eagles is making it’s way around.
Here are some of the quotes from Chip Kelly via CBS Philly:
"However, the rumors are just speculation as of now. According to Kelly, no teams have inquired about the former USC quarterback.“Mark has played well, but we haven’t had anybody call or ask us anything,” Kelly said. “That’s not something we’re talking about because you’re just spending time on things that could happen, should happen. I don’t know. But I know we’re really happy about him.”"
Now, as much as the media would like to slant this a certain way and speculate that Sanchez is leaving Philadelphia in a blockbuster deal, it’s simply not going to happen.
Take a look at Kelly’s comments, and find one area of the quote where he talks about wanting to deal away the former Jet. There have been no calls, no talks, and quite frankly, no interest anywhere in the entire story that hints at a potential deal.
The Eagles desperately need Sanchez, whether they’re willing to admit it or not. The quarterback talent in the league is extremely thin, and Sanchez is one of the few backups in the NFL that has experience winning on a big stage.
Many will remember the butt-fumble, but Sanchez has done a lot right since entering the league in 2009.
Kelly’s team has a lot of offensive fire-power, and it can’t be wasted if Nick Foles goes down due to a freak injury. The offense needs someone who can fill in and run the offense efficiently if Foles does go down, and at the moment, Sanchez looks like he might just be the best option.
The team does have Matt Barkley on the roster, but he hasn’t shown anything to make the coaching staff feel confident that he can get the job done.
