Round 2

1. St. Louis Rams                        Brandon Thompson DT            Clemson

After acquiring a LT the Rams should turn their attention to improving a dreadful run defense.  The Rams have a pair of quality young DE and need to complement them with an inside presence.  Thompson thrives on causing disruption on the inside and plugging up run lanes.  His presence would help out the LB core a ton.

2. Indianapolis Colts             Cordy Glenn             OG           Georgia

After acquiring Luck the Colts need to surround him with quality players.  The Colts playmakers are aging and the OL is not what it used to be.  Glenn would pair with Ijalana to give the Colts two powerhouse Offensive Guards who can also pass block as well.

3. Minnesota Vikings                Kelechi Osemele       OL            Iowa State

Vikings missed out on Khalil in Round 1.  They were able to get a shut down CB in Claiborne but now need to turn their attention on the offensive line.  Vikings need a LT and a new pair of Offensive Guards.  No LT is worth this spot but Osemele has the ability to become a Pro Bowl road grinder at offensive guard.  He could also play RT and move Loadholt to RG.  Osemele’s presence will start the rebuilding of the offensive line.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers    Jayron Hosley          CB           VT

Along with improving the offense the Buccaneers have holes in the back seven of their defense.  The Buccaneers need more playmakers at the Corner Back position and Hosley would fit in perfectly.  While small in stature Hosley has great ball skills and has fluid hips.  He could be the ball hawk the defense currently is missing.

5. Cleveland Browns                 Lamar Miller            RB           Miami

The Browns picked up a franchise QB and a big play WR.  They now turn their attention to the lack of talent at RB once Peyton Hillis leaves in FA.  Lamar Miller reminds many of LeSean McCoy with his style of running and his soft hands.

6. Washington Redskins       Ryan Tannehill         QB           Texas AM

The Redskins went defense in Round 1 with Kirkpatrick.  Their were no Quarter Backs worth the pick.  I do not think there are any worth this pick either but the Redskins are desperate not to have Grossman start next season.  Ryan Tannehill is an exciting but very raw prospect.  He has improved a ton and with Shanahan’s help he might become a solid player….I hope he attends the Senior Bowl which could either raise or lower his stock.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars            Stephon Gilmore      CB           SC

Jaguars were able to get a weapon for Gabbert in Round 1 with Blackmon and now will go to the defensive side in Round 2.  The secondary for the Jaguars are okay but with Mathis’ age and FA status it is unknown if he will be back.  Gilmore is a physical player who tends to make a ton of risky plays.  That allows him to get a decent amount of interceptions but makes him prone to allowing big plays.  With some coaching Gilmore could become a solid CB and certainly has the tools to do so.  As an added bonus he is a very talented return man as well.

8. Miami Dolphins                      Dwayne Allen            TE            Clemson

Dolphins miss out on Tannehill and now will have to build around Matt Moore for another season.  Getting Jonathan Martin in Round 1 helped and now acquiring a complete TE in Dwayne Allen should give Moore a chance.  Allen is a punishing blocker who is a great short to medium range target and really is a red zone threat.  Allen should help the Dolphins move the chains on third down.

9. Buffalo Bills                              Vinny Curry              DE/OLB    Marshall

Buffalo’s lack of pass rush has cost them this season.  In Round 1 the Bills drafted Upshaw and in Round 2 the Bills get an under rated pass rusher in Vinny Curry.  Curry has put on weight and really showed play making ability for the Thundering Herd.  Curry has great speed around the corner and has solid pass rush moves.  He is also a kick blocking demon and would give the Bills a talented young LB core.

10. Kansas City Chiefs            Dontari Poe              NT            Memphis

Pioli loves to load up on the line of scrimmage.  After drafting Reiff in Round 1 to be their LT the Chiefs acquire their NT.  Kelly Gregg is aging and Jerrell Powe has failed to show he has future starting potential.  Poe is an intriguing prospect who is around 350 pounds but has great burst and athletic ability.  The combine and off season workouts might enhance Poe into Round 1.  For now I will keep him in the middle of Round 2 due to the fact he has not played elite competition.

11. Carolina Panthers           Mohammed Sanu      WR           Rutgers

After acquiring a dominant DE many feel that the Panthers will turn to DT or CB.  They certainly might but the Panthers should load up on weapons for their young QB.  Steve Smith is nearing the end and none of the other targets really scare anyone.  Mohammed Sanu is a force at WR, RB, and kick returner.  Sanu has good size, great body control, and soft hands.  He is the perfect complement to Steve Smith.  There are reports Sanu might come back but nothing concrete yet.

12. Philadelphia Eagles (T)    Jerel Worthy            DT            MSU

The Eagles Defensive Line is starting to play better but for most of the season they were completely run over.  On top of that many of their talented defensive linemen are on the wrong side of 30.  Jerel Worthy is a force in the middle of the 5th rated Spartan defense.  He excels at his initial burst and disrupts many plays.  He would be a good fit in the Eagles attacking style of defense if he comes out.  Worthy has states he is 50/50 at the moment.  I expect him to leave early.

13. Seattle Seahawks             Montee Ball              RB           Wisconsin

The Seahawks young secondary is playing well so CB is not a need in the draft.  The Seahawks need a QB but none are worth this pick.  The Seahawks live and die in the run game so far and Lynch is a Free Agent.  I think the Seahawks resign him but it is unrealistic to expect Lynch to not tire down as he gets older.  Montee Ball is a complete Running Back who can rotate in with Lynch and provide the Seahawks with the elite depth at RB to keep their style of play effective.  Ball excels at power running and has elite balance and cut ability.  He also has soft hands and is sound in pass blocking.

14. San Diego Chargers         Alshon Jeffrey         WR           SC

Chargers need to surround Rivers with more talent.  At WR Malcolm Floyd is injury prone and Vincent Jackson is a FA.  With Gates winding down his career this draft could focus around Rivers.  In Round 1 the Chargers drafted a franchise Center and now get a risky, yet talented WR in Alshon Jeffrey.  Jeffrey has great size but lacks speed and desire.  Any player in his Senior Season who allows themselves to get out of shape is a risk.  I would not want them on my team but in Round 2 it is worth the risk.  Jeffrey has powerful hands and is a physical player.  Lets hope Rivers can light a fire in him.

15. Chicago Bears                      Kevin Zeitler             OG           Wisconsin

The Bears should concentrate on offense in this off season.  In Round 1 Floyd was drafted to be their #1 WR.  In Round 2 this offensive line needs to be addressed.  The Bears have young Offensive Tackles who could improve but the interior has nothing but Garza who is playing out of position at center and Chris Williams who is injury prone.  Zeilter is an elite Offensive Guard prospect.  Zeitler routinely opened holes in the run game and shut down elite Defensive Tackles in the pass game.  His work on Still and Worthy was admirable.  Zeitler will fill the hole at RG for the Bears and play besides Carimi once again.

16. Dallas Cowboys                                   Mark Barron             SS            Alabama

Cowboys continue to improve their secondary.  In Round 1 they drafted Dennard to be their shut down CB and in Round 2 they draft Barron who could be an elite SS.    Mark Barron is always around the ball and has improved his coverage angles this season.  He is a bully versus the run and has good ball skills in the secondary.  His football IQ is off the charts.

17. New England Pats (T)      Fletcher Cox             DT            Miss State

As stated earlier the Patriots are looking to upgrade their front seven on the defense.  Just as important is it for the Defensive Ends to be able to play OLB in a 3-4….Defensive Tackles must be able to play DE in a 3-4.  Cox would be a great addition with his size, speed, and penetration ability.  Patriots getting Brandon Jenkins and Fletcher Cox would do wonders for their defense.

18. New York Jets                      Mike Adams              OT            Ohio State

The New York Jets three biggest problems are their lack of pass rushers, their offensive line, and their QB.  With the 1st Round pick of Zack Brown the Jets have addressed the need for pass rushers.  With Sanchez’s contract I doubt the Jets spend a 2nd Round Pick on a QB.  That leaves Offensive Line and their biggest hole being RT.  Wayne Hunter is not a starting offensive lineman in the NFL.  Mike Adams played LT in college but does not have the foot speed to play LT in the NFL.  His size and strength will be best suited playing RT and he would fit in with the Jets desire to play smash mouth football.

19. Philadelphia Eagles         Marvin McNutt          WR           Iowa

The Eagles are most likely not going to resign DeSean Jackson.  Jackson is too limited and has too big of a mouth.  The Eagles will need to replace them due to the emphasis they place on having a high flying passing game.  McNutt would be an ideal fit due to his size, speed, and hands.  He might not be as fast as Jackson but he is a big time play maker whose route running maximizes his ability to get down the field.  He has tremendously big hands which combined with his 6”4 frame would improve the Eagles red zone offense.  He is also a high character player which the Eagles need.

20. Tennessee Titans             Michael Brewster      C              Ohio State

Brewster’s stock has fallen lately.  His Senior seasons was hit and miss…that being said he has over 3 years of good tape and I think the Titans will jump on this kind of value in Round 2.  Brewster is a strong center that has had trouble snapping the ball from shot gun…so did Mike Pouncey and he went 14th.  The Titans desperately need to replace Amano at center and move him back to LG which will improve two spots for the price of one.

21. Atlanta Falcons               Nate Potter                               OT            Boise State

Falcons need a Center, Right Guard, and Left Tackle.  Potter is the best available out of those positions.  Potter is an under rated LT prospect.  He needs to get stronger but has faired well run blocking…watch the Georgia game.  His pass protection is near elite as well.  In 3 years this Boise State OL has averaged less than 1 sack per game and Potter is a big reason for that.

22. Denver Broncos                   Chris Polk                                RB           Washington

The Denver Broncos offensive scheme is predicated largely on a pounding run game.  The Broncos have been successful but to maintain that success the Running Back position must be addressed.  Willis McGahee is injury prone and might not have much left….Knowshon Moreno cannot stay healthy.  Chris Polk is a very complete Running Back who has good size/speed combo, solid field vision, and is a weapon in the passing game.

23. New York Giants                                Andre Branch          DE            Clemson

The Giants addressed the offensive line in Round 1 and could continue doing so, but Jerry Reece loves to stick to his BPA approach and in this case Andre Branch is that player.  Giants are sound at DE but with Tuck’s injury history and Osi’s constant headaches about playing time/contract demands the Giants might want a new running mate for JPP.  Branch is a complete DE who plays the run and the pass well.  Her has solid size/speed combo and only lasted this long because of an inconsistent motor.

24. Houston Texans                   Jordan White            WR           Western Michigan

Texans have Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels and lack any other play maker in the pass game…besides at RB.  We have said this for far too long.  Jordan White is a complete WR who if he was a tad bit faster might have gone in Round 1.  He has good size, runs great routes, catches everything, and displays great RAC ability.  White will really take off after the Senior Bowl.

25. Cincinnati Bengals       Markelle Martin         SS            Oklahoma State

The Cincinnati Bengals took Janoris Jenkins in Round 1 but that is not enough.  The Bengals have a hole at SS that Taylor Mays was unable to fill.  Martin is a complete safety who can also play FS.  His coverage ability is sound and is a consistent tackler.  Bengals secondary should be sound moving forward and a focus on RB is their next pursuit.

26. Detroit Lions                      Ben Jones                                C              Georgia

The Lions finally are in a position to replace Dominic Raiola.  As a lifelong Lions fan I have loved the effort and leadership Dominic Raiola has brought to the table but father time has started effecting Dominic and his lack of size is a hindrance in short yardage situations.  Ben Jones is a 4 year starter at center in the SEC.  He has great size and is very physical.  He also played with Stafford for a season and has some familiarity of his on-field presence.  Jones pass protection still needs some work but it is improving.

27. Pittsburgh Steelers          Josh Chapman         NT            Alabama

With the drafting of Hightower and Chapman the Steelers have ensured their defense is strong up the middle.  Casey Hamilton and James Farriors are both largely responsible for the dominant defense the Steelers have lined up over the years.  With both well over 30 it is about time the Steelers get their replacements.  Chapman will never possess great stats but he occupiers blockers and his conditioning is great for a player his size.

28. San Francisco 49ers        Ryan Broyles          WR           Oklahoma

The 49ers could use one more upgrade at Wide Receiver.  They really lack that silky, smooth route runner who can get 1st downs and is a very sound RAC player.  Broyles is in the late 2nd to late 3rd range depending on how he recovers from injury.  If he shows good progress the 49ers would be getting a complete WR who complements Crabtree very well.

29. New England Patriots      Derek Wolfe              DL            Cincinnati

The Patriots have stocked up on pass rushers and will continue to do so.  In recent years the Patriots have stocked up on particular positions: Secondary, Tight End, and Running Back.  This season it is the front seven in order to get back to a solid 3-4 team.  Wolfe and Cox are both solid 3-4 Defensive Ends and will allow the Patriots defense to get back to their old nasty selves.

30. Green Bay Packers            Billy Winn                                DL            Boise State

The Packers defense is a problem.  The have not been great at pressuring opposing quarterbacks or stopping the run.  The Packers 3-4 Defensive Ends: Ryan Pickett is at the end of the line and the others are simply not that good.  Billy Winn is a very solid run defender who can bring pressure to opposing quarterbacks.  Combined with DE/OLB Ronnell Lewis the Packers defense will be improved next season.

31. Baltimore Ravens                Shea McClellin         DE/OLB    Boise State

The Ravens Line backing group gets another young, talented player.  With Sergio Kindle not panning out so far it would be wise to get another pass rusher to take pressure off Terrell Suggs.  McCellin has a non-stop motor that also displays a quick first step and has shown the ability to drop back in coverage.

32. New Orleans Saints            Lavonte David          OLB         Nebraska

The Saints main weakness on defense has been the play of the Outside Linebackers.  The Saints lack a true playmaker there.  Lavonte David would be a day 1 starter with his sideline to sideline speed and great instincts.  He is also solid in pass coverage.  Combined with Vilma the Saints would have good speed at the linebacker position.
