Arizona State at Boise State Draft Watch: Can Vontaze Burfict Resurrect Draft Stock
Tonight the Arizona State Devils will take on the Boise State Broncos in a game that is filled with potential N.F.L. talent.
The highlight of the class is clearly Vontaze Burfict. Burfict has everything you could possibly look for in a linebacker prospect. He’s big, violent, ahs good range, long arms, can rush the passer. He has one problem though, he can’t play smart football. This guy has Patrick Willis/Ray Lewis type upside, but he just can’t stay away from personal fouls and stupid mistakes. There are reports that he has been benched for this game in essence becoming the second string linebacker. We’ll have to watch and find out tonight if that’s true. Burfict needs a good, smart, game tonight.
Osweiler, right now is a fringe top 100 prospect who has great high and makes a lot of plays. He is very inexperienced though, but is a guy to really watch for next year. Osweiler could develop into a first round pick next year-he has that kind of ability, but he’s not near there yet.
Boise State doesn’t have great prospects, but they have a lot of good solid prospects.
Boise State prospects
The best is probably DL Billy Winn.
Winn is a versatile defensive linemen who’s best fit is as a 34 Defensive end. Winn will probably come off the board sometime in round two and has an outside chance of being selected very late in the first round. He’s a guy who can come in hold the edge in the 34 with godo strength and a great motor. He’s not necesarily a big time play-maker though.
This is the prospect I’m most interested in watching. Martin’s stock is all over the place, and that’s because he doesn’t have elite measurables , but rather just does everything pretty well. He has plus vision, can go inside or outside, and catches the football well. He’s not going to wow anyone at the underwear Olympics, but he could have a Roy Helu type impact next year for the right team. In the day and age of running back rotation, Martin could be a little bit of a throwback kind of guy who doesn’t have to come off the field. A really nice prospect.
I’m not really sure where Potter’s stock is. There was a time where he could have worked his way into the conversation as a first round pick, but that hasn’t matured. Potter is an experienced and good offensive tackle. Potter is another guy who doesn’t have elite athletic ability, but just gets it done on the N.F.L. level. I don’t think he’s ever a star, but he can develop into a reliable starter for the next 10 years.
George Iloka S Boise State
This is a guy I personally have to watch more of to get a real good feel about him. Sayre wrote about him:
Very productive player ever since he stepped on campus, and a converted wide receiver from high school with a nose for the ball. Since his freshman year, he has compiled 174 tackles, seven interceptions, and a sack to go along with having the requisite size and athletic ability to succeed at the next level. One of the best senior safety prospects in the entire country, and a guy who will come into the NFL and contribute immediately on special teams. He is a ball-hawk and really improving as a tackler.
Moore is the biggest name and one of the best players in College Football. Moore though doesn’t project that well into the N.F.L. he’s very limited as a N.F.L. thrower. Who lacks height and a protypical N.F.L. arm and he plays in a goofy offense. He is a gritty winner and you never want to count those kind of players out though.
