Kellen Moore Scouting Report QB Boise State

This is our Kellen Moore scouting report. Kellen Moore is a enigma, scouts aren’t in love with this guy fans are. He’s not the kind of polarizing figure that Tim Tebow or Colt McCoy was, but he is beloved  by fans because above all he wins games.

Lets’ break him down.

Measurables:

6’0….30 1/4 inch arm length, 197 pounds, 9 1/2 inch hands

4.94 40 second dash, 27 inch vertical jump, 99 inch broad jump, 7.41 3 cone drill, 4.56 forty yard dash

Pros:

Just a winner…smart player…great leader…really does a good job of spreading the ball around to his targets and usually what the offense gives him…

Cons:

Doesn’t have a wow me N.F.L. arm, will have trouble fitting some balls into tight N.F.L. windows…Does not have good size…kind of a goofy delivery that’s a little too long…doesn’t have great poise under pressure, I’d have to see him play more games with a heavy rush in his face…doesn’t play in a pro style offense and will have to learn to take more snaps from under center…numbers are inflated a bit because of how good his receivers are creating yards after the catch..

Thoughts:

I expect the hate to come, but I think Kellen Moore is a developmental quarterback. He’s tough and he’s a big time winner, but when I watch him I see a guy who can run a system that relies on a lot of quick decisions and short to intermediate passes, not a guy who a team builds their system around. he has some talent but he also needs a  lot of refinement, I think he has a tendency to force some passes when there is pressure in his face, and while he does take some snaps from center he’ll have to do that much more in the N.F.L. He’s smart, but I think he’s a backup quarterback in the N.F.L. because of his limitations in his arm strength and overall ability.

NFL Mocks Preseason Bio:

I would venture to say the only thing keeping Moore from being a top tier NFL prospect is his size, and I don’t think there are many that would disagree with me. One of the most prolific quarterbacks in the country and a perennial All-WAC selection as well as a pre-season All American. Moore has an astounding 5:1 career touchdown to interception ratio, and over the last two seasons has only thrown nine picks despite the Boise State offense being predicated on the pass. Has 40 career games under his belt already, including one of the most winning records in all of college football. This is a guy who is really just flat out a winner on the football field and his play reflects it. As the Boise State starting QB, he has 10,867 yards, 99 touchdowns, only 19 interceptions, and has only been sacked 23 times, 10 in the last two seasons combined. He also has three rushing touchdowns, and his only career reception has gone for a touchdown. Not only that, but he has three career punts, and a long of 54 yards! This kid is just an exceptional athlete, and you would love to see him turn out to be like a Drew Brees type of player. He doesn’t have the strongest arm, but he can make any and every throw and is dead-on accurate. He completed over 71 percent of his passes last season, and led the nation with a quarterback efficiency rating of 182.63. He is undersized and his arm strength doesn’t overwhelm, but he should be drafted and will undoubtedly make an NFL roster.
