2012 NFL Mock Draft Week 1
By Editorial Staff
Round 3
1. Seattle Seahawks Cyrus Gray RB Texas AM
Seattle Seahawks still need to replace Shaun Alexander. With Andrew Luck now at QB and Cyrus Gray at RB the offense is no longer imcompotent.
2. Indianapolis Colts Greg Childs WR Arkansas
Reggie Wayne will be a FA and if not resigned the receiving core looks very average. Childs has battled injuries but has intriguing size and speed. Very good fit in this offense.
3. Kansas City Chiefs Bobbie Massie OT Ole Miss
Massie could be a huge upgrade at RT for the Chiefs. He battles inconsistency but has good size and good athleticism. He just needs to put it together and he could go higher than this.
4. Chicago Bears (T) Donnie Fletcher CB BC
Fletcher’s size and aggressiveness will adhere him to Chicago. Bears secondary is getting a little long in the tooth. Fletcher adds to the defensive youth movement going on in this draft.
5. San Francisco 49ers Delano Howell SS Stanford
An ever improving prospect. Harbaugh is familiar with him and would give the 49ers an upgrade over Donte Whitner in pass coverage.
6. Tennessee Titans William Vlachos C Alabama
Titans have huge holes in the center of the offensive line. Kevin Mawae has been missed….Vlachos has been key to the Alabama offense. He is more than capable run blocker and very intelligent in line calls.
7. Cincinnati Bengals Chris Polk RB Washington
Polk is hugely underrated in this draft. He is sound in all phases of the game. In an offense that is far from elite he gets the attention and still produces. Bengals will love the increase in RB depth.
8. Miami Dolphins Ricky Wagner OT Wisconsin
Dolphins seem to take offensive lineman every season and still need talent. As of now RT seems to be the last hole on the OL. Wagner would give the Dolphins the pile moving force needed from the RT position. He also is a capable pass protector.
9. Minnesota Vikings Coryell Judie CB Texas AM
Vikings have huge holes in the secondary. Winfield is on his last legs and Chris Cook is the only CB who appears to be starting caliber. Judie has solid size speed combo. He is a prospect that could go higher than this with more attention this season.
10. Denver Broncos Nick Foles QB Arizona
I am playing the waiting game, but I do not believe Foles or Cousins are 3rd round prospects. I am thinking round 4 is more likely. Foles has size and a strong arm but checks down way too often. It might be the system…maybe.
11. Cleveland Browns Shaun Prater CB Iowa
Iowa just keeps churning out solid DB prospects. Praeter keeps it going. He will complement Haden and be an upgrade over Sheldon Brown.
12. Jacksonville Jaguars Brandon Boykins CB Georgia
Type of guy Gene Smith loves. Tough, smart, and versatile. He will play right away at CB and be a force on ST. Jaguars are building a team if Gabbert can show potential.
13. New York Giants Brandon Thompson DT Clemson
Brandon Thompson has been flying up the draft boards. I think he has elite potential but has not had enough production to move higher for me…at least not yet. Currently the Giants would acquire more DT talent and depth.
14. Washington Redskins Ryan Miller OG Colorado
Ryan Miller would be a perfect fit on this zone offensive scheme. Miller is very athletic and can move well in space…two things required in this offense. If he wows at the combine could move into round 2.
15. Arizona Cardinals Shayne Skov OLB Stanford
Skov is a prospect that I am going to move up my board and soon. His versatility would be ideal in a 3-4 defense. He is adapt at rushing the passer, covering RB and TE’s, and attacking the line vs. the run.
16. Oakland Raiders Terrell Pryor QB Ohio State
Supplemental Draft Pick
17. Tampa Bay Buccaneers LaMichael James RB Oregon
Buccaneers lack speed in the backfield. Defenses do not have to fear long runs as well as screen passes which allow defenses to focus elsewhere. James would give the Buccs a real threat and a good complement to Blount.
18. Buffalo Bills Dwayne Allen TE Clemson
Chandler had a good 1st game as a Buffalo Bill. I am not ready to believe he is the answer. Allen is sound blocker and solid down field threat. Fitzpatrick could use more weapons.
19. Atlanta Falcons Cordy Glenn OG Georgia
Exposed at LT he will move inside in the pros. Glenn is a powerful man and will patch the hole that Harvey Dahl left. Falcons get OL depth and competition needed to keep Matt Ryan healthy and happy.
20. Chicago Bears Levy Adock OL Oklahoma State
I know Adcock has played solid and many have him higher than this…I just think he will be exposed once scouts observe his footwork. I think he is a very good OG with ability to play RT in a offense predicated to running the ball…he just struggles vs. speed rushers.
21. Detroit Lions Shea McClellin DE Boise State
Pick should be attributed to Charlie Campbell who writes for Walter Football. He wrote “An ideal player would be McClellin. Last year, he had 9.5 sacks with 13.5 tackles for a loss, 30 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble. McClellin started off the season extremely well with a dominant performance against Georgia, recording six tackles with 2.5 sacks. Like Vanden Bosch, McClellin has good technique with a fabulous motor. If he continues his upward trend, he probably won’t make it this far down on the second day of the draft.” Sounds like a Detroit Lion to me.
22. St. Louis Rams Jerry Franklin DE/OLB Arkansas
Franklin is the type of LB that Spagnuolu loves….versatile and can really rush the QB. He will be used similarly to Mathias Kiwanuka. Great student of the game he will start sooner rather than later.
23. Houston Texans Kenny Tate SS Maryland
Tate has done well as a big safety and as an undersized LB. His versatility will be coveted by Wade Phillips. Coverage needs to be cleaned up but Tate is more than able and willing to put in the work.
24. San Diego Chargers Dwight Jones WR NC
Was shocked he was still available in this mock. Very sound WR who has the size the Chargers demand at WR. Physical and improving daily…he could be the ideal #2 WR for the Chargers.
25. Pittsburg Steelers Barrett Jones OG Alabama
Steelers could use more talent on the OL. Jones is as technically sound as they get. Able to play multiple positions and play them well. Jones will settle the RG position and upgrade it.
26. Dallas Cowboys Bruce Irvin OLB WV
Many draft nicks have Irvin much higher than this. Irvin posses phenomenal athletic ability and has solid production. From watching film on him he seems to do well simply because of his speed. He will need a ton of coaching to achieve his potential. Rob Ryan will make him and Bruce Carter his special projects.
27. New York Jets Nigel Bradham ILB FSU
Very versatile LB capable of being effective in most any situations. His speed and coverage/rushing the passer abilities will be used in their fullest in this defense.
28. New Orleans Saints Tank Carder LB TCU
Saints need to upgrade the defense at all levels. Carder is similar to Darryl Washington from a few season ago. Very active and sound in all phases…smaller LB that fits into the Saints system.
29. Philadelphia Eagles Ladarius Green TE Louisiana Lafayette
Very athletic TE who will give the Eagles competition at TE for Brett Celek as well as giving them much needed depth.
30. New England Patriots BJ Cunningham WR MSU
BJ Cunningham will complement Ryan Broyles well. Cunningham has elite size and sound speed…his hands are huge and clings to the football like Spiderman. I am a MSU homer but Cunningham is a steal waiting to happen.
31. Baltimore Ravens Nicco Johnson ILB Alabama
Versatile ILB who does not get a lot of love on this loaded defense…but is familiar with the 3-4 and could be a steal this late in the draft.
32. Green Bay Packers Edwin Baker RB MSU
Ryan Grant is all but done and Alex Green has not shown anything special. Baker is another Spartan who is not getting a lot of love just yet but has size, speed, vision, and amazing body control. He will combine with James Starks to form a solid duo.
