Ryan Mallett vs Alabama: His Big Opportunity!

This weekend’s match-up of Alabama vs Arkansas is important on several levels.  It has a direct impact on the SEC standings as well as National implications.  Alabama is currently #1 in the country and a loss would be a hit on their hopes to repeat as National Champions.  Arkansas is looking to make a push into the National scene and a win against Alabama would be huge.  But I want to focus on another important aspect of this game, Ryan Mallett’s NFL Draft stock.

Ryan Mallett has started off the season sizzling and has many draft experts singing his praises.  He has performed well against good competition especially while leading Arkansas on a last second drive to beat Georgia last week.  He has been very accurate while showing off his excellent arm strength.  Jake Locker’s recent struggles have certainly helped Mallett as he looks to claim the top quarterback spot in the 2011 NFL Draft.

This weekend’s game Against Alabama is going to be a true test for Mallett.  He will have the opportunity to face a top notch defense and lead his team to a signature win.  For Arkansas to pull off the upset Mallett will have to be almost perfect because the Hogs defense will have a hard time shutting down the powerful Alabama offense.  Mallett is going to have to go point for point with that offense and he will have to take care of the ball.  Keeping the offense moving and sustaining long drives will help keep his defense rested and in a better position to make some stops.  If Mallett can stay composed and put up the numbers he is capable of it will go a long way in his quest for the #1 spot in the 2011 NFL Draft.  I am very excited for this weekend’s game and I expect a ton of NFL scouts to be in attendance.  Mallett sits at #3 on our 2011 Prospect Big Board a good game this weekend could have him sitting on top by this time next week!
