Arizona’s Potentially Dominate Defensive Line

It has been an offseason of change for the Arizona Cardinals.  The offense has seen the retirement of Kurt Warner and the trade of Anquan Boldin.  The defense saw both Karlos Dansby and Antrell Rolle sign big free agent contracts.  However, they did make an improvement at one position.  After drafting Dan Williams it is arguable that the Cardinals have one of the best 3-4 defensive lines in the NFL.

It all starts with Darnell Dockett at the defensive end position.  Dockett is a Pro Bowler who has emerged as one of the best defensive ends in the game.  He is dominating versus the run and he also generates a lot of pressure on the quarterback.  Last season he registered 7 sacks and 51 tackles.  Dockett’s high motor is allows him to be a threat on every play.

Opposite Darnell Dockett is Calias Campbell.  Campbell is a physical specimen at 6-8 290lbs.  He had a breakout season last year registering 7 sacks and 48 tackles.  Campbell is strong enough to stop the run and quick enough to wreak havoc in the backfield.

Bringing it all together is Dan Williams.  Williams was arguably the top nose tackle prospect in the 2010 NFL Draft.  He is a big and powerful player whose best attribute is his ability to stuff the run.  Williams is expected to come in and start right away.

With the addition of Williams the Cardinal’s defensive line is very dangerous.  Williams is the missing piece and fills the all important nose tackle position.  As the season progresses teams are going to notice just how good this defensive line is.  This is a great example of adding 1 player to a unit could make them dominating.
