Another rough offseason continues for the Rams as they lose a wide receiver

Rams wide receiver Mike Thomas has been suspended four games by the NFL for testing positive for a performance enhancing drug.

Los Angeles will not have Thomas available against the Colts, Redskins, 49ers, and Cowboys to start their season.

Thomas, a sixth round pick last year, played 15 games as a special teams asset for Los Angeles. He primarily contributed on the special teams as a kick returner, compiling 180 return yards during the year.

As a receiver working with veteran Case Keenum and rookie Jared Goff, Thomas caught only three of nine targets for 37 yards. Regardless, his role was expected to increase playing with Goff as they entered their sophomore years.

Thomas was featured in a scouting report compiled last year by our own Jon Gross, who highlighted Thomas’ tenadcity and effort throughout the game.

"What stands out the most about the former Golden Eagles’ game is his motor. He is a relentless athlete who operates at 110% on every single play, whether he is blocking or going out for a pass. A player like Thomas can inspire teammates to match his effort level."

With Thomas now out to start the season, the Rams may even consider cutting the second-year wide out as the 53-man roster cuts come down to the wire. Los Angeles currently enters their season opener with new head coach Sean McVay against the Indianapolis Colts with Tavon Austin and Robert Woods as their starters.

Thomas’ suspension comes the same day as Minnesota Vikings receiver Michael Floyd, who will also miss the first four games of the year. Floyd was arrested for DUI in December as a member of the Arizona Cardinals, and failed an in-home alcohol test that he’s contributed to drinking kombucha tea.
