It is now official. Trent Richardson has been given his walking papers as first reported by Oakland Raiders ESPN Reporter, Bill Williamson. To a certain degree, it is indeed a surprise, but as NFL followers, we should’ve all seen this coming.

Trent Richardson has proven time and time again that a running back without vision cannot survive in the NFL today. Yes, he was a top five pick, and he also has some juice left in him as he is still young, but like I said, he is proving to the NFL that a running back must have vision to stick here.

Now that leads me to the question if Trent Richardson is truly done with the NFL? Is he? In my opinion, yes he is. The simple fact that the Oakland Raiders barely gave him an opportunity late in the offseason gives me reasonable doubt that he will come back any time soon. He has been given chance after chance after chance to improve his overall game as a running back and has yet to deliver since his rookie season. Honestly, this may be the biggest downhill spiral I have ever seen from a top five pick in that fact that he was once in consideration for rookie of the year, and now he may very well be out of the league. Such an unfortunate story, and I hope he receives yet another chance, but I simply do not see him getting that one last opportunity. Three strikes and you’re out.
