Everett Golson Transfers to Florida State, NFL Draft Stock Impact

Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Everett Golson, who helped lead the team to the National Title a few years back, has transferred to Florida State and will be the successor to Heisman winner and National Champion Jameis Winston for the Seminoles.

But no pressure, right?

Golson is undersized for a prospective NFL quarterback as it is, and he’ll have a tough time making it at the position in the league with his current skill set, but his platform will certainly be amplified as it pertains to his NFL Draft prospects.

Not that Notre Dame doesn’t provide a great platform, but he’ll have a clearer advantage of getting playing time at Florida State and he’ll have a team that is top 10 in the country in terms of talent and with some overachieving could get to the College Football Playoffs again.

Bucky Brooks of NFL.com wrote in 2014 that the success of guys like Russell Wilson in recent years could pave the way for Golson to also receive favorable reviews as an NFL prospect, and to be honest, we’ve seen smaller QBs like Johnny Manziel or Teddy Bridgewater get picked in the first round anyway.

I don’t know that Golson is a first round draft pick, but going to Florida State definitely makes the spotlight shine that much brighter. He threw for 3,445 yards and 29 touchdowns last season with just 14 interceptions.

If he can put up big numbers like that as a member of Florida State, his NFL Draft stock could soar in 2015.

This will be one of the more interesting cases to follow in 2015.
