Cary Williams and the Baltimore Ravens Reunited in Free Agency?

In an unlikely turn of events this week, rumors have emerged that the Baltimore Ravens may be targeting their former cornerback Cary Williams. If a reunion did come about in the upcoming run of Free Agency, would Ozzie Newsome be praised for his decision?

In Baltimore, you’d likely hear a lot of fans complaining about Williams’ past performances with the Ravens. However, they can’t ignore the totally dismal performance from their secondary last season; it was too bad to ignore and the Baltimore brass knows that.

Williams didn’t exactly thrive in Philadelphia, but a recent report from Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun on social media has noted that the former Baltimore CB may be interested in returning to a group that he fit in with relatively well at times.

If Williams is willing to return to the Ravens, what kind of interest would Newsome have? Could he really bolster the secondary enough to be that “big fix” that has been needed for oh, so long?

The first aspect of this highly-complicated scenario has to be the money. Baltimore simply doesn’t have the cap space to spend big (yet, at least). Assuming that Williams won’t be in the top tier of options in the secondary over the next few weeks, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Ravens at least send an offer Williams’ way.

It wouldn’t hurt to throw out a low-ball offer. Heck, what’s the worst that could happen?

Ultimately, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Williams jump on the Ravens’ ship for a contract a bit smaller than expected. If Wilson’s report of interest is true, it might not take much to see this reunion take place.

You can’t ignore how much the Ravens need a corner after watching their tape from 2014. Bringing in the veteran CB isn’t as much of a risk if they can nab him at a price that fits Newsome’s thoughts. The GM knows he can’t win with guys like Rashaan Melvin and Anthony Levine.

Williams can thrive. Give him the correct setting, and he’ll be ready to roll.

Can Baltimore be that place?
