Stock Up: Georgia Wide Receiver Chris Conley

Every year there are players that use the NFL Scouting Combine to generate positive buzz about themselves. University of  Georgia WR Chris Conley is the latest prospect to help himself with a good day in Indianapolis.

More from NFL Draft

Conley won’t have eye-popping statistics because Georgia’s offense heavily featured their run game (when you have Todd Gurley and Nick Chubb in the backfield, it makes sense). However, Conley has been an intriguing wide receiver for Georgia for the past few years and was able to show his physical talent in Indianapolis on Saturday.

Even though Georgia’s passing game was relatively conservative as they were limited by quarterback Hutson Mason, Conley still managed to average 18.3 yards per catch. That’s a really good number for a receiver of his size.

But how did his on field statistics translate over to his combine workout?

Conley measured in at 6’2″ 213lbs, so his size checks out. Where he really shined was the 40 yard dash, posting unofficial times of 4.41 and 4.35, extremely fast for any prospect but even more enticing when you factor in his size. Not to mention is freakish 45″ vertical and 11’7″ broad jump. Both of these drills show how explosive of a weapon he can be.

These measurements give the impression that he can be a deep threat at the next level.

His arms measured in at 34 inches long, and his hands were a bit below 10 inches; both of these are good numbers that came in near the top of all the wide receiver prospects. Conley looks the part of a major sleeper and could produce at the next level if he lands in the right situation.

A raw prospect, Conley needs to work on his route running and being more consistent with his hands; he suffers concentration lapses at times and will drop the ball.

These are all problems that can fixed with hard work and coaching. When we look back at the 2015 NFL Draft in five to ten years we may be wondering how Chris Conley fell to the later rounds.

Hopefully Conley can produce plays like this in the NFL.
