Derek Carr Can be the Future for Oakland Raiders

It would take a lot of convincing if you just looked over his 2014 tape, but Derek Carr can be the future for the Oakland Raiders. In fact, I’m willing to say that he will be the starter for years to come for fans in Oakland.

It’s not easy to find a player like Carr.

Too many rookie quarterbacks overanalyze and simply can’t get the job done due to fear in their eyes. The thing that hurts young signal-callers the most is the inability to get the ball out fast and make decisions on the fly. In Thursday Night’s win against the Kansas City Chiefs, Carr displayed both of those traits in a big way.

Something is different with the rookie out of Fresno State. Sure, he’s one of the lone bright spots on an 0-10 team … but he has an almost Phillip Rivers-like demeanor when he takes the field.

The NFL is about fire. It is motivated by passion.

When Carr takes the field, he already has those two tucked in his back pocket, ready to roll.

The Raiders aren’t great, but there’s time for the future to build. The running game is going to get progressively better (especially if Latavius Murray has anything to say about it). The offensive line is in a rebuilding mode, and the receiving corps already has a few young talents that will have their games shaped in the next few years.

Carr must bond and build relationships with his pass-catchers. In a few years, the chemistry of the unit may be completely different.

Things can only look up from here, something Carr drilled home in his press conference last night. Here’s a quote from the team website:

"I know how much effort, how much fight, how much toughness, mentally, physically, spiritually. This game has taken a toll on us this year. I know how hard it is. So, I wanted to let everybody know and just let them get excited too, and just tell them, ‘Hey, this is what we can do."

Next up: The St. Louis Rams next Sunday.
