Peyton Manning Breaks Brett Favre’s NFL Passing TD Record

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning won’t make a big deal of it, but history was made tonight, and in grand fashion. Manning broke Brett Favre’s long-time NFL passing touchdown record in the second quarter of the game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Manning completed a pass to TE Demaryius Thomas with 3:09 to go in the second quarter to get the record, sealing the deal on Thomas’ toe-tap by the sidelines.

Favre didn’t make too big of a deal about his record being broken. Here are a few quotes from NFL.com:

"“Oh, well,” Favre said live on NFL Network’s NFL GameDay Morning. He added: “I don’t really care to be honest with you and I mean that with no disrespect. I think the world of Peyton. I’m not surprised that he’s going to break it.”"

To be fair, Favre handled the line of questioning with respect. Some wanted a flashier quote, but that’s just typical of Mr. Favre.

Manning has certainly sealed the deal for his hall-of-fame chances – this ball will simply be a very nice addition to a trophy case somewhere around the country (Manning has to keep this locked at home, right?).

After tossing two touchdowns to Wes Welker and Emmanuel Sanders earlier in the game, Manning got the job done with #509 a bit quicker than most expected. The crowd was ready, the Broncos were ready, and as much as he might not want to admit it, Manning was ready as well. He handled the situation with class and typical Manning fashion, to no surprise.

The Broncos have a few more weak defensive backfields on their remaining schedule, so it’s safe to say Manning has a real chance to improve on this number before the season’s end.

After 2014? Maybe he’ll take a page out of the Favre book and stick around for awhile. Either way, he’ll always have a piece in NFL history on this night.

Congrats, Peyton. The NFL world needs more guys like you.
