2012 NFL Mock Draft Tennessee Titans 7 Round, Titans Grab OL Help

facebooktwitterreddit

The Tennessee Titans had one of the most successful drafts of any team in 2011, and that’s not even including the potential future impact of QB Jake Locker. The Titans made great picks with players like USC DT Jurrell Casey, LB Akeem Ayers, and LB Colin McCarthy. Their great draft allowed them to compete for a playoff spot perhaps a year earlier than most people expected. They head into 2012 confident they can make some noise, with the biggest question looming over them will Jake Locker do enough to take away the starting QB job from veteran Matt Hasselbeck?

I believe the Titans have every pick round 1 through round 7 and no extra picks, but do correct me if I’m wrong.

Because of their success they’ll be picking 20th overall.

I haven’t gotten any feedback from team fans yet on what the Titans needs are, but my perceptions are that the Titans need another pass rusher, more depth at running back, another wide receiver (though Williams showed some problems), Offensive line help, and a cornerback.

All of our scouting reports are here. But you can click on the names of these players to get their specific scouting reports

1st round: Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

I think by the time the draft rolls around Konz will have proven to be a better prospect than last year’s Mike Pouncey so he will be drafted before this selection, but as of now this is about where is value is and he could definitely end up here if a team or two reaches for a quarterback that aren’t Robert Griffin III or Andrew Luck.

Round 2: Casey Hayward, CB, Vanderbilt

Hayward isn’t a big name because he plays on a bad team, but he’s a talented player who could win a starting job for the Titans next season.

Round 3:  Juron Criner, WR, Arizona

Criner has late first round early second round ability, but there are things swirling around the web about his desire to play football. This could easily drop his stock, but at this points he’s too good value to pass up. His presence on the opposite side of Kenny Britt will give the Titans enough receiving options to give Jake Locker the chance to succeed he never had in College. Britt is talented, but a bit of a knucklhead off the field and has to come back from a season ending injury as well. They will add a receiving option either in Free Agency or early in the draft if I had to guess.

Round 4: Jacquies Smith, DE, Missouri

Smith is an athletic defensive end with a nice athletic frame. Smith is part of a very talented Missouri Tigers defensive line. Smith should test out pretty well and boost his stock a bit. The Titans drafted Derrick Morgan in the first round, but he hasn’t been able to stay healthy their other DE haven’t applied any pressure on the quarterback so look for them to make this position a priority at some point during the draft.

Round 5: Rokevious Watkins, G, South Carolina

A massive interior ol prospect with some athleticism. Watkins isn’t routinely talked about as a top interior prospect, but he’s higher in our positional rankings than most. The Titans don’t have much depth at the OL position and Jake Scott could always be upgraded. This makes two interior OL picks for the Titans in this draft.

Round 6: Bobby Rainey, RB, Western Kentucky

The best little running back prospect you’ve never heard of. Rainey is small and stout, built in the mode of Ray Rice who has shown an ability to be a guy who can take a pounding at the running back position for Western Kentucky. Chris Johnson is the man in Tennessee, and Javon Ringer isn’t a terrible #2 option but that’s a position that could still use some more talent. Jamie Harper didn’t get much play this year. Besides once you get into the 6th and 7th rounds the idea is to take players you think can last in the N.F.L. So few players picked in the last two rounds last any length of time in the N.F.L. Draft good players and let the needs work themselves out.

Round 7: LaVon Brazill, WR, Ohio

Brazil isn’t highly regarded yet either, but has been a big time playmaker for Ohio in his career. He really showed up big in his bowl game this year and impressed me with his toughness and ability to make clutch plays. He doesn’t have great measurables, but neither did Victor Cruz! Brazi competes for every football that goes in the air, and has a chance to develop into something in this league.

Let me know what you think Titans fans. Although I saw the Titans play three of four times this year I’d hardly consider myself a Titans expert so feedback is appreciated.
