Torrey Smith Explodes in the first Quarter of the Ravens-Rams game

During the off-season the Baltimore Ravens traded for Lee Evans to give them a big play threat who could stretch the field and complement their young talented tight ends and Anquan Boldin. But today with Evans out, second round pick Torrey Smith put on a show. Each week I do a rookie hot list (from week 2) that takes a look at the performances around the league by rookies and Smith will definitely have to make a debut tonight.

The Ravens huge win also puts me three and 0 in my locks of the week this season vs the spread. Now, the rest of my picks aren’t doing as well, but I’ll take doing well in at least one area. In a day the Ravens obliterated the Rams, the Steelers are struggling to beat the Peyton Manning-less Colts in Indianapolis.

Even with his huge performance I”m not sure I’d recommend running to the waive wire to grab him. Lee Evans will eventually be back and the Rams are absolutely devestated in the secondary. It won’t be that easy every week.

Other quick thoughts around the league.

What a great game by the Bills. Is Fred Jackson the M.V.P. of the league after three games in? I think so.  Jackson has 303 yards rushing with a 115 yards receiving and three total touchdowns. If not him, maybe it’s Darren McFadden 393 yards rushing through three games and 84 yards receiving with 4 total touchdowns. Mcfadden has 20 more carries than Jackson so far this year. Though both are averaging 6.4 yards per carry. Sometimes Crazy Al makes great decisions based on speed (McFadden, Nnadmi Asmougha, Denarius Moore) other times you get Darrius Heyward Bey. The Raiders are more talented than they get credit for though.

Can the Raiders be consistent moving forward. They are tough and are getting back to “Raiders football”, but they have shown these kind of flashes before and it’s always fizzled out. I’m actually rooting for the Raiders to be good again. How cool would it be for the Raiders, Lions, and Bills all to return to the playoffs this year.

A big question about Michael Vick from the off-season wasI, was he worth the big contract? Can he stay healthy. Three games played: 1 game finished so far. He then whined and cried in the post game conference. “Im’ getting hit a lot wah wah wah….not to complain! just to let you know!

Vick that IS the definition of complaining.

The Packers defense doesn’t look nearly as good early this year as it did last year. The offense will over come a lot of those problems, but they have to be much better on defense to repeat as champions.

Quick fact I heard: 49ers haven’t allowed a player to rush for a 100 yards on them in 25 straight games, the longest current streak in the N.F.L. Their defense isn’t bad. I think they are going to make the playoffs.
