Cam Skattebo pulled off an Ashton Jeanty type performance in leading Arizona State to a 27-19 upset victory over No. 16 Utah Friday night at Mountain America Stadium.

With Jeanty taking the nation by storm when it comes to running backs, Skattebo has flown under the radar, but has put together impressive number through Week 7 of the college football season.  In helping his team increase their record to 5-1, the 5-foot-10, 215-pound senior rushed for 158 yards on 22 carries for two touchdowns.

Okay, not quite Jeanty numbers, but it was the monster runs that will have NFL scouts taking a deeper look at Skattebo.

Cam Skattebo raises NFL Draft stock with powerful touchdown run

With a 47-yard touchdown run and a 50-yard touchdown run, Skattebo broke the backs of the Utah defense.  Watch how he finds a hole, powers through it, break tackles and accelerate to the end zone to give Arizona State a lead late in the third quarter:

Already known for his vision, this underrated running back showcased his explosiveness with his two runs against Utah on Friday night.  His versatility and shiftiness as a power runner will translate nicely to the next level, if drafted by the right team.  Overall, his football IQ and ability to return punts makes him a mid-to-late round 2025 NFL Draft prospect and a prospect that has flown under the radar until what he did in helping his squad upset a nationally ranked opponent.

2025 NFL Draft: 3 teams that should be eyeing Cam Skattebo

In a deep running back class, teams in need of running back depth will look at Skattebo despite him being undersized.  His ability to run between the tackles and catch the ball out of the backfield makes him an intriguing third down back for a few teams.

New England Patriots:  Okay, this isn’t your Bill Belichick, Tom Brady Patriots anymore, but what’s been missing in the Patriots’ offense has been that third-down back like a Kevin Faulk, James White or even a Danny Woodhead.  Skattebo would fit that role and give Drake Maye an intermediate yardage weapon.

New Orleans Saints:  Another team that loves to utilize the pass-catching back and multi-positional player, the Saints have to begin thinking about life without Alvin Kamara.  Not saying Skattebo can completely fill that void or be the next Kamara, but he’s a swiss army knife type player the Saints will find ways to utilize.  Like Taysom Hill, he has played quarterback, tight end and any offensive position his team has needed him.

San Francisco 49ers: As a late round pick, Skattebo would be a nice fit with the 49ers learning behind Christian McCaffrey and fullback Kyle Juszczyk.  Both of those players are on the other side of 30 and a player like Skattebo could eventually step in and have success in the 49ers backfield.
