The Seattle Seahawks are undergoing a major overhaul of their passing game this offseason, which might come as a surprise considering they ranked 8th in the NFL in passing yards per game last season. However, since the season ended, the team has traded quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, sent star wide receiver DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and released veteran receiver Tyler Lockett.
To kickstart this rebuild, Seattle signed quarterback Sam Darnold on the first day of free agency, inking him to a three-year, $100.5 million contract. One key weapon he’ll inherit is Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who led the team in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns last season.
Despite this, the Seahawks still need to bolster their receiving corps, and they have the draft capital to do so, holding five selections within the first 92 picks of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Seahawks top target
With their first-round pick, 18th overall, Seattle should target Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden. Golden’s elite speed—clocking a 4.29-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine—makes him a perfect fit, especially after the departure of Metcalf, who was the team’s primary deep threat. Golden’s game-breaking ability was evident throughout his Longhorns career, where he averaged 17 yards per reception this season and consistently hauled in deep passes.

The Seahawks could also find Lockett’s replacement in the draft. A strong candidate is Miami’s Xavier Restrepo, a polished receiver known for his exceptional grip strength and ability to make tough catches. Seattle could likely land him with one of their two third-round selections.
Beyond these two key additions, the Seahawks may also look to add depth on Day 3 of the draft. A potential late-round steal is Montana’s Junior Bergen, a special teams ace who could provide an immediate boost to Seattle’s punt return unit. Last season, the Seahawks ranked 30th in the league in punt return average, managing just 7.4 yards per return. Bergen, on the other hand, averaged a staggering 24 yards per return this season and scored eight total punt return touchdowns, including three last season alone.
If Seattle can land these three receivers in the draft and sign at least one veteran in free agency—such as Cooper Kupp—they will give Sam Darnold a well-rounded supporting cast, setting the foundation for a rejuvenated and explosive passing attack in 2025.
