Will the Denver Broncos solve their quarterback crisis via the 2024 NFL Draft?
Heading to the 2024 NFL Draft, the quarterback crisis continues for the Denver Broncos franchise.
Since Peyton Manning's retirement in 2016 after leading the Broncos into Super Bowl victory that year, Denver has struggled to find a viable replacement for Peyton Manning as the team has gone through many different starting quarterbacks.
In a move many thought would lead the Broncos out of their depressing state, the team signed former Seattle Seahawks QB and Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson to a lucrative multi-year deal. However, by doing so, the Broncos had given away so much for securing the veteran QB, including giving up two first and second-draft picks. Unfortunately, The Broncos released Wilson after only two seasons in one of the most underwhelming signings in recent years.
Will the Denver Broncos draft a franchise QB in the 2024 NFL Draft?
It's worth noting that despite the Broncos moving on from Wilson, the team took a financial hit by paying him a whopping $85 million cap to release him from his contract.
However, in a rare positive news regarding the quarterback crisis for the Broncos, unlike the two previous NFL Drafts, the Broncos will finally be able to draft someone from the first round. The Broncos are currently listed in the No. 12 selection of the 2024 NFL Draft, allowing them to potentially draft someone who could be a game-changer for the team in the long run.
Rumored QB prospects for the Broncos
One NFL Draft prospect who many rumored to be drafted by the Broncos is Oregon quarterback Bo Nix, who recently had a stand-out 2023 season by being a former Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year. And much like Wilson in his prime, Nix is well-known as among the top dual-threat quarterbacks coming out of high school, an attribute that makes him more appealing for this upcoming draft.
It's also worth noting that Michigan quarterback and 2023 National Champion and Big Ten Quarterback of the Year J.J. McCarthy is another prospect many speculate could get drafted by the Broncos. As he's also the third quarterback in college football history with the best winning percentage, McCarthy is another prospect that could be the Broncos's ticket out from their ongoing crisis.
