49ers add intriguing linebacker in Round 4
San Fransico adds another high-quality offensive lineman in the NFL Draft this time addressing the offensive guard spot. The 49ers only resigned Jon Feliciano to a one-year deal after he had an up and down season. The team could look to replace him with a strong run blocker, to make sure they can establish their run game against the top teams they see.
The top FCS prospect in the NFL Draft is South Dakota State offensive guard Mason McCormick and he could be the type of lineman the 49ers are looking for. McCormick is an aggressive run blocker who also has the mobility to play in the team’s zone-blocking scheme.
The 49ers have one of the best linebackers in the NFL in middle linebacker Fred Warner, but have little else at this position. Dre Greenlaw is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, and De'Vondre Campbell who battled injuries each of the past two seasons in Green Bay.
Curtis Jacobs is a fast athletic linebacker who does a great job of playing sideline to sideline. He also has the fluid hips to hold up in coverage and is a feared pass rusher accounting for 6.5 sacks over the past two seasons.
